As stated previously this project explored how mnemonic knowledge becomes associated with specific locations in the environment. Specifically this project explores the role of the performance element rhythmical pattern body movement in transmitting knowledge.
For my exhibition titled “Veneration” the media used was video and performance. One aim of my exhibition was to show how physical rhythmical body movements and gestures with a symbol, such as a red poppy wreath, can create a new spatial meaning. It is my assertion that this physical rhythmical actions witnessed gave a remembrance context to this “art” space. Another exhibition aim was to examine the frequency of this activity and whether connotations communicated are something more than just commemorative.
This video performance explores these assertions.
This video of wreath and poppy laying was shot by Amr Tawfik.
